Understanding World Africa Day
World Africa Day, celebrated on May 25th every year, marks the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on this day in 1963. The OAU, now known as the African Union (AU), was established to promote unity and solidarity among African countries, fight colonialism, and enhance the continent's development. This day is a time to reflect on the progress Africa has made and to renew our commitment to the continent's future.
Theme for 2024: "Youth Empowerment for a Brighter Tomorrow"
The theme for World Africa Day 2024 is "Education Fit for the 21st Century" This theme underscores the vital role of young people in shaping the future of Africa. Investing in youth means investing in the continent's growth, innovation, and sustainable development. Education is a cornerstone of this empowerment, providing the skills and knowledge necessary for young Africans to thrive.
Our Mission: Supporting Education in Zimbabwe
At TANGA Foundation, we are dedicated to providing educational resources to underprivileged children in Zimbabwe. Our mission aligns perfectly with the 2024 theme, by focusing on education, we aim to equip the next generation with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty, achieve their dreams, and contribute positively to their communities and beyond.
Why Education Matters
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty: Education is one of the most effective tools for lifting families and communities out of poverty. It opens doors to better job opportunities and higher incomes.
Promoting Health and Well-being: Educated individuals are more likely to make informed health choices, leading to healthier families and communities.
Encouraging Civic Participation: Education fosters informed and engaged citizens who are better equipped to participate in democratic processes and advocate for their rights.
How You Can Get Involved
As we celebrate World Africa Day 2024, we invite you to join us in our mission to empower the youth of Zimbabwe through education. Here are some ways you can get involved:
