Commemorating the International Decade for People of African Descent 2024

Today marks a decade of honouring the people of African Descent, a celebration of a group of protected heritage and people. Leading up to today, we at Tanga Foundation have spent the month anticipating this significant occasion, reflecting on the immense contributions of people of African descent and their vital role in shaping our communities.
A Message from the Secretary-General
On Thursday 29th August 2024, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a powerful message ahead of this celebration. Guterres emphasized “the importance of recognizing the diverse contributions of people of African descent across various fields. He further emphasized that African influence in culture, science, politics, and activism is profound. These remarks and acknowledgements resonate deeply with our mission at Tanga Foundation.
Strengthening the African Nonprofit Sector
In the spirit of this day, the nonprofit sector is increasingly focusing on fairness and representation. Organizations are recognizing the need to elevate the voices of people of African descent in leadership roles and programming. At Tanga Foundation, we embody this commitment by ensuring that our initiatives reflect the perspectives and needs of the communities we serve.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the International Decade for People of African Descent, we reaffirm our dedication to advocating for justice, equality, and opportunity for all Africans. Tanga Foundation is committed to supporting programs that empower African youth, helping them recognize their full potential.
